Loving & Knitting for BJD Dolls

Apparently it is not acceptable for a person to love dolls that are so lifelike aka Ball Jointed Dolls

Some people find BJD so freakish that they find them ‘evil’, yes, I have heard that comment from two friends, one is a very close friend. Anyway, that doesn’t change my feelings for them, it just means that I can’t share my love of BJD with most people.

Hmmm… adults dressing up dolls, a women in her early 60ies loving dolls/ Nooo, not acceptable, very weird indeed. A man buying trains, stations, race cars, making model airplanes etc, oh yes totally acceptable, but a woman loving dolls … ahhh eviiil, I tell you!!

Enough of that, I was merely expressing what I have heard being said about my longtime interest ‘dolls and creating dolls clothes’.¬†Too bad, I can’t share it in my immediate environment.

Doll Clothes Advice

On Friday I bought some lovely lace  Alpaca / Silk yarn from Malabrigo in ThisIsKnit in Dublin city centre. It is a lovely grass green, bright and cheerful, I fell in love with the colour and texture and it immediately inspired me to create a peplum type of top.

On Monday the 17th of March, I went to visit my daughter Jasmin and her family. While the Daddy and the three children went to the Saint Patrick’s Day parade, myself and Jasmin had a chat in Costa Coffee in the shopping centre.

A bit of peace for a busy Mum is paramount! I know all too well how it felt for me during those years of rearing 4 children!

I seeked advice from Jasmin about how to change the peplum top that I had knitted the two previous days. We looked at patterns of peplum top and saw that I should have the wider part start from just under the bust.
I love getting advice from one of my daughters when it comes to clothes for my doll family.
Thanks Jaz!

Second version of the peplum

I followed my daughters advice and created a better version of the peplum. I added 2 yarn over separated by 1 knit and knitted 4 stitches in between, the pattern looks like a series of leaves growing at bottom of the sweater. Lovely job!

As an addition I made a matching necklace and a bracelet with bits and pieces of beads that I have. The dragonfly is one of my favourite pendants that I bought over the years.

Thanks Ina, it gives great satisfaction to create for my dolls and I would guess that you get the same pleasure in creating for your dolls?
