It is the middle of August and the weather has changed drastically since last week Saturday when it was warm and sunny and sitting outside knitting was still a possibility.
This is an update on my August creations some of them knitted in my mother’s garden in Gent, Belgium. My aim is to design a series of sweaters for SD dolls for my Etsy shop MizouBJD.
The initial prompt for this autumn creations was the custom order from Kat Snowhite or Kat from LittleRebel for a sweater for one of her dolls.
As per usual I went to Thisisknit shop in Dublin and looked for navy blue wool, which seemed very difficult to find so instead I got a skein of HedgehogFibres in various tones of blue. While in the shop I send an email to Kat showing what I had found and she loved the variegated colours and agreed to have the custom order made in that specific wool.
I send the sweater this Monday to Kat by standard post in a small zip bag and also a padded envelope, post and packing costs were around €2.70.
I hope that she will be very happy with her MizouBJD creation.
SD Navy Blue Sweater
The second blue sweater was made in Sulka Legato from Mirasol Yarns which is a wool, alpaca and silk mix. It is rather expensive and 50 gram skein isn’t enough for 2 sweaters so the price of the finished garment will be a little more expensive. It knits beautifully and I also perfected the knitting by making all the ribs with a twisted knit stitch. This makes for a more elastic but tighter finished look to the pullover. It looks fantastic on my Medhi doll, a Berber boy with lightly tanned skin.
SD Blue Aran Knit Sweater in Hedgehog Fibres
This sweater took me awhile to create, first i made the design with Aran cables set on a purl background. I knitted the main part of the jumper and then realised that the cables shrunk the width of the sweater and that it didn’t look OK on a 60 cm doll. That was two days knitting out of the window!
Then I created a small swatch with a pattern of an Aran cable, twisted knit and rice stitch and worked out on my template where the pattern started and ended.
The second trial worked out OK but the pattern takes a lot of attention and knitting this in front of the TV is not recommended unless you know the pattern by heart after a while.
I could listen to a story while knitting this one. I am planning to knit at least one more in another colour for my shop but it is going to cost a lot more around €35. This is not much for 3 days work and around €7 for the wool.
Blushing Tan Jointed Hands
Just before I left for Belgium I received the Illusion Spirit doll SD Boy version 2 package from Alice’s Collections in Hong Kong. I had that order on a layaway since May 2014. I had ordered a good few clothes and a fur wig for Seraphim.
The Illusion Spirit body is tan and the photo of Medhi earlier in this post shows him with the tan body. I had ordered tan jointed hands too, as I am a great enthusiast of tan hands and planned to blush them on my next weekend.
Sunday morning on the 10th of August I sat in the kitchen where the light is the best in the morning and blushed the hands with pastels. The result is quite good.
